A 19-year female, Uygur ethnic, has confessed to her foiled terrorist attempt on a passenger plane taking off from Urumqi on March 7, China's Ministry of Public Security announced on Thursday.

The ministry issued a statement here about the latest investigation on the planned attack to a passenger plane of the China Southern Airlines taking off from Urumqi, capital of northwestern Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region.

The police said the 19-year-old female suspect Guzalinur Turdi and other people involved in the case were seized by the police.

"On March 7, Turdi boarded the plane with a camouflaged destructive device after deceiving airport security personnel. She went ahead with her terrorist sabotage activity but was foiled. She fully admitted her crime," the statement said.

The flight CZ6901 took off in Urumqi at 10:35 on March 7, heading for Beijing, but made an emergency landing in Lanzhou, capital of neighboring Gansu Province at 12:40.

The police launched the investigation as soon as the plane landed, the statement said.

"The investigation showed that the incident was an organized and premeditated terrorist attack targeting the aircraft," the statement said, adding that the case is still under further investigation.

"We are fully prepared for security threats from any side and completely capable of foiling any terrorist attack," it said.

According to the earlier report, the attacker was stopped in time by the air police on broad and the plane landed in Lanzhou after the crew and air police reported the incident to the control tower.

All the passengers and crew members on board are safe and arrived in Beijing on March 8 morning.
