As of June 1 this year, the administrative department for industry and commerce will conduct focused supervision over and inspections of shopping malls, supermarkets, markets and stores which provide and use plastic shopping bags. Businesses which illegally use thin plastic shopping bags and sell the designated plastic shopping bags will be punished according to law, as reported by Xinhua Net.
According to the General Administration for Industry and Commerce, plastic shopping bags are used daily; provide convenience for consumers; and at the same time, have caused a serious waste of energy resources and environmental pollution. Thin plastic shopping bags, in particular, are easily damaged and have become the main source of "white pollution." As a result, the Office of the State Council has issued a notice saying that, from June 1 this year, there will be a ban on the production, sale, and use of thin plastic shopping bags.
