Beijing citizens get personal credit reports close to home

CITIC Bank and Prudential Life Insurance Company Limited Beijing Branch recently launched a joint "Credit Beijing" activity. During the activity, CITIC Bank and Prudential Life Insurance Company will invite experts from the Beijing Center of the People's Bank of China's Credit Reference Center to come to 20 communities in Beijing and provide the public with personal credit reports free of charge, according to Xinhua Net.

The activity will run from April until November. Deputy director of the Department of Management Business at the People's Bank of China Jiang Wanjin said that this "Credit Beijing" activity will help local communities understand credit and credit information. The activity aims to help residents to realize the value of credit and credit records, and consciously regulate credit behavior; and strives to create a good credit environment and contribute to the Beijing Olympic Games.

Data show that by the end of 2007, the personal credit information system contained nearly 600 million personal records.The personal credit rating system in 2007 was used 323,000 times daily; and personal credit reports have become essential to risk management in commercial banking, playing an important role in personal loan payment, credit card issuance, and collecting overdue accounts.
