Coal mine gas blast leaves 14 dead, two others missing

Fourteen miners were killed, two more missing and two others injured in a coal mine gas explosion in Huludao City, Liaoning Province, local authorities said on Sunday.

The accident took place at the No.3 Coal Mine of Shaguotun Village in Nanpiao District at 10:15 Saturday morning, the publicity department with Huludao City Committee of the Communist Party of China (CPC) told Xinhua.

Rescue operation is still going on at the private coal mine, which has all the necessary licenses as required.

Cause of the accident is under investigation, and no other details are available.

Huludao city government has issued an circular asking 77 other coal mines in the city to suspend production for rectifying measures.
