The Chinese government and people have the ability to host a successful Olympic Games, a senior Egyptian media official said Wednesday.
Abdalla Hassan, chairman and editor-in-chief of the official Egyptian news agency MENA, told Xinhua that China will host a grand opening ceremony for the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games with the attendance of many international celebrities.
The Olympics is a big event with global concern, through which China will show its magnificent social and economic achievements, Hassan said.
Viewing the reports of the Chinese public celebrating the 100-day countdown to the Beijing Games on Egyptian TV, Hassan noted that China will make good preparations in the next 100 days to successfully host a grand, high-quality Olympic Games.
On some Western media and countries' distorted reports of China's Tibet issue and human rights, Hassan said this aims to split China and tarnish China's international image.
Hailing China's increasing role in the international arena and the UN Security Council, Hassan ruled out the possibility that the attempts will affect China's successful hosting of the Olympic Games.
Hassan also reiterated the Egyptian government's adherence to the stance of respecting China's unity and territorial integrity.
