More than 1,000 people from the local community mourned on Wednesday for a policeman shot dead during a pursuit of an alleged riot leader in northwest China's Qinghai Province.
Lama Cedain, 33, a Tibetan officer in charge of criminal investigations in the Public Security Bureau of Dari County, Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture of Golog, was wounded six times and died at about 6:30 a.m. on Monday, according to the Provincial Department of Public Security
Gasangco, Lama Cedain's wife, as well as more than 1,000 officers and residents attended the funeral Wednesday morning in Huzhu Tu Autonomous County near Xining, Qinghai's capital.
"He died for guarding our peaceful life," a middle-aged Tibetan woman from Dari said. "God bless him."
Following the March 14 unrest in Lhasa, a handful of people alleged to be insurgents seeking "Tibetan independence" incited herders in Hongke Town, Dari County, to riot on March 21, the department said.
After a month-long investigation, the police moved on Monday to arrest Qoidob, the suspected leader. The suspect resisted arrest and gunfire broke out.
Lama Cedain was killed in the gun battle, the department said, and other officers returned fire, killing the suspect.
Lama Cedain joined the police in 1996 and was honored one of the best ten police officers in Golog. He had a 6-year-old child.
