"Loulan City,"which disappeared 1,500 years ago, is expected to be mimicked within Shanshan county of the Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region. The local government plans to build a Loulan palace which will be a new tourist resort.
Loulan, established by the Loulan people on the west bank of Lop Nur more than 2,000 years ago, was once one of the world's most open and prosperous places as a transit point for trade across China, Persia, India, Syria and the Roman Empire on the Silk Road.
A landscape design institute from Beijing will complete the restoration project with the help of historical materials. The proposed construction of "Loulan City"will include the Loulan Royal Palace, Loulan Inn, Loulan Cultural Square, the Western Regions Hall, Talin and Loulan 12 Fang.
