Hangzhou Bay's second crossing river bridge ——Jiaxing-Shaoxing Crossing River Bridge preparation work recently held a groundbreaking ceremony in Shangyu on the Qiantang River, marking a substantive step for construction, according to Xinhua Net.

According to the Shaoxing City Construction Bureau, the Jiaxing-Shaoxing Crossing River Bridge is the second channel crossing Hangzhou Bay after the Ningbo-Hangzhou Bay Bridge. The project is the key to the parallel crossing of the river from Shenyang to Haikou and Taizhou to Changshu highways on the national highway network. It is also an integral part of the Zhejiang Highway Network. In January 2005, the project was approved by the National Development and Reform Commission. In December 2007, the feasibility study report of the project was approved.

To deal with the impact of the Qiantang River tide, an approaching bridge needs to be constructed to connect to the initially completed projects; and form a coherent construction pavement, so as to provide adequate technology and construction protection for bridge building.

The bridge starts in Xiuzhou of Jiaxing, connecting the Zhepu-Jiaxing-Suzhou Highway, crossing Haiyan county of Jiaxing, Haining City and Shangyu City in Shaoxing; and its end connects to the Hangzhou-Ningbo Highway. This road is about 69 km; and the part of bridge across the Hangzhou Bay is about 10 kilometers: a two-way bridge with eight lanes. The Crossing River Bridge’s design speed is 100 km/hour, and will be constructed over four years.
