More donations are pouring in Saturday for China's quake relief efforts, as rescuers race against time to save life on the sixth day of the 7.8-magnitude earthquake that rocked southwest China's Sichuan province on May 12.
The All-China Women's Federation has raised 62.8 million yuan (about 8.97 million U.S. dollars) in cash and over 40 million yuan worth relief goods.
The relief funds and goods will be mainly used for helping women and children who have fallen victims in the deadly earthquake, according to the federation.
So far, there have been over 22,000 reported deaths in the affected areas, while the total death toll is officially estimated at 50,000 or more.
Lafarge Shui On Cement Company, one of the largest cement manufacturers in China, has donated 10 million yuan (1.43 million U.S. dollars) and 5 million yuan to Dujiangyan and Mianyang cities.
The company also encourages its staff to make donations to the affected people. So far, it has sent 100 of its workers to join in local rescue teams and helped relocated over 3,300 local residents in Jiangyou and Dujiangyan cities.
The French-Hong Kong joint venture company has 20 factories and over 10,000 employees in China, including two located in Dujiangyan and Jiangyou cities.
