After the earthquake, Beijing News, Beijing Community Union and China's Children and Teenagers' Fund jointly launched a search for "caring parents" for the children in disaster-stricken areas. Fairly soon, a group of children from disaster areas will come to Beijing for temporary stays with loving and caring Beijing parents.

By 8:00pm last night, more than 1,200 temporary families had been formed. Li Jianping, deputy director of the Contact Centre of China's Children and Teenagers' Fund, pointed out that currently these temporary families can not adopt a child. The Fund reviews the requests made by each family; and after several rounds of screening, selects the first batch of "caring parents" to form temporary families.

Li says, China's Children and Teenagers' Fund plans to choose 1,000 children, who are unable to find relatives and unable to go back to school for the time being, to participate in this event. "This will be done mainly to reduce the local government's burden. We hope that by the end of the month we can announce the first batch of children that are to come to Beijing. At the same time, we plan to develop relevant standards for sponsorship and make strict requirements for temporary families to prevent secondary damage to the children."
