According to the Ministry of Agriculture, a heavy summer grain harvest is in sight. If no major weather disasters occur, China's summer grain yield will achieve a record high. It will be the first time since the founding of the Republic of China that the total output has increased for 5 consecutive years.
An official from the Ministry of Agriculture said that, in order to promote the stable development of China's grain production, the Ministry of Agriculture has set up 500 high-yield demonstration fields; and each covers one 10,000 mu (about 6.67 square km).
On these demonstration fields, a fine variety and good cultivation are developed through integrated technology, intensive use of resources and concentrated efforts, to obtain a yield of 600 kilograms of wheat per mu, a single-season rice yield of 700 kg, 800 kg of corn, and a double-season rice yield of 900 kg.
Preliminary statistics show that the growth area of rapeseed this year reached 103 million mu, an increase of 11.17 million mu over the previous year. The output is expected to hit 11.85 million tons, up 430,000 tons over the previous year; and will reverse the three-year downward trend.
