The China Giant Panda Protection and Research Center in Wolong is relocating to a new habitat in Sichuan. The original panda habitat was severely damaged in the devastating earthquake. Wolong will build a new giant panda habitat for the animal's safety, according to a spokesperson from the China Giant Panda Protection and Research Center.
Wolong has a high topography and humid climate, which is an ideal environment for the growth of the giant panda's main food sources. The newly-built panda habitats will remain in the Wolong Nature Reserve Park and the captive pandas will not migrate out of Wolong, said Li Desheng, deputy director of the Giant Panda Protection and Research center, on June 10th. The panda habitat will be secure and have a suitable climate.
Currently, experts are determining a plan to rebuild Wolong and have made the relocation of the habitat their key goal.
