At the end of May this year, Taiwan had a population of 22,988,428 - 940,000 more people than that of the same period last year. The population is growing at a rate of 0.411%, with an average of 257 people born each day, according to statistics released by the "Ministry of the Interior" of Taiwan authority.
Statistics show that by the end of May, the number of families in Taiwan was approximately 128,000 more than the same period last year, with a growth rate of 1.73%. As for cities and counties, Taipei county has the largest number of families - 1.32 million - accounting for 17% of total households, followed by 950,000 people in Taipei city and 630,000 in Taoyuan County.
The statistics also reveal the gender ratio in Taiwan is 1.02:1, with the male population recorded at 11,614,850 and and female population reaching 11,373,578.
