A bus collided with a truck in central China's Henan Province Thursday afternoon, killing five people and injuring eights others, the local authority said.

The accident took place at about 4:30 p.m. on a road near Xiayi County, a government spokesman said.

The dead and injured were all passengers of the bus. The injured were taken to hospital.

The drivers of the two vehicles, Wang Mingsheng and Yang Changwei, fled after the crash, the spokesman said.

A preliminary investigation showed both had violated China's traffic regulations by failing to observing the principle of "going on the right," he said.

Local police were searching for the two drivers.
