Booking tours to Taiwan in Shanghai is a flourishing phenomenon. According to the Shanghai China Youth Travel Agency, the first tour to Taiwan on July 4 expected 50 people, but by now more than 500 people have registered. An average of every ten people competes for one seat, as reported by chinanews.com.cn.
In addition, China Youth Travel Service (CYTS)'s "Taiwan Island 10 Days Elite Tour” on the 18th, 20th, 25th and the "Taiwan Island Eight Day Tour" are fully booked well in advance. Staff in the tourism industry say that “organized tours to Taiwan are now fully booked the moment booking starts."
According to Liu Xiaojun, spokesman for Shanghai CYTS, Shanghai citizens' enthusiasm for Taiwan is based on a special connection to Taiwan’s humane and historical landscape and the island's folk traditions. A-li Mountain, and Sun Moon Lake have a certain appeal to people from the Chinese mainland.
According to reports, among the tourists in the July 4th Shanghai tour group heading to Taiwan, nearly two-fifths are between the ages of 50-70. Most of them travel with one or two family members.
