Construction of a parking apron for helicopters used for news coverage, at the top of CCTV's leaning tower, is underway. The parking apron is a 2,000- square meter, round platform with a 27-meter diameter, according to the China State Construction Engineering Corporation (CSCEC), carrier of the construction.

The leaning tower is adjacent to Chang'an Avenue, so previously the apron design was converted into a high-altitude sightseeing platform because of airspace restrictions. The apron will be used in the event of an emergency.
