Between 400,000 and 450,000 overseas visitors are expected to come to Beijing in August this year during the 29th Olympic Games. The city is equipped with enough accommodation to meet increasing reservations and prices.
And travelers can access tourism information through the 12301 hotline next week or log on to http://www.bjta.gov.cn/ in English, French, Spanish, Arabic and Japanese.
At the press conference on July 11 regarding Olympic tourism services, Xiong Yumei, spokesperson and vice director of the Beijing Tourism Bureau, said that 119 out of more than 800 star-rated hotels had contracts with the Olympic Organization Committee to host 30,000 registered Olympic visitors --- mainly media, national Olympic Committees of various countries, sponsors and members of the International Olympic Games. The rest of the star-rated hotels and the 4,978 unrated hotels will be available to other visitors.
The latest statistics provided by the municipal tourism and statistics administrations at the end of June show that the reservation rate at five-star hotels for the Olympic period reached 77.6 percent with an average price of 3,464 yuan for a standard room. For four-star hotels, 45.5 percent of rooms have been booked with an average price of 2,185 yuan for a standard room. Four-star hotels in Dongcheng, Xicheng and Chaoyang districts have higher booking rates, reaching 86 percent, 66 percent and 59 percent respectively. Local households are also ready to host visitors. Altogether 726 rooms are available for more than 1,000 visitors. "That will provide a platform for people-to-people exchanges between Beijing locals and overseas visitors," said Xiong.
Some 120,000 visitors are confirmed to come to Beijing through travel agencies. Service supervision mechanisms and reception schemes will be implemented in travel agencies.
Tourism services in at least eight languages will be provided at counters installed by travel agencies in the Athletes Village and the two media centers --- the Main Press Center (MPC) and the International Broadcast Center (IBC). Athletes can choose from eight "half-day" city tour routes.
Accommodation for the Para-Olympics is also ready. Besides well-equipped rooms in 16 contracted hotels for the Para-Olympics, more than 1,200 linear meters of barrier-free ramps have been built in 60 major tourist sites in Beijing.
Taking into account Chinese visitors from other parts of country, the total number of visitors is estimated to exceed 1 million in August, said Xiong.
