The earthquake in Wenchuan, Sichuan Province has not caused any abnormal weather conditions. The current climate of Sichuan remains normal as compared with the previous year. Deputy Director of the Sichuan Provincial Meteorological Bureau Zhong Xiaoping made this announcement on July 24.

Zhong said that since May 12, the temperature, precipitation and other meteorological elements have not shown any significant change. Statistics show that in the first half of this year, the average temperature in Sichuan was 14.4 degrees Celsius, 0.1 degree higher than in the years past, and within the normal range. In the first half, average precipitation in the province totaled 391 mm, 13 percent higher than in past years; but due to the even distribution in periods of rain, precipitation during the spring-summer drought is relatively light.
