The newly established National Energy Board and China Electricity Council officially announced the operation of the No. 1 unit at the China Guodian Taizhou Power Generation Corporation on August 1st in Beijing. The unit has become a landmark for generating 700 million kilowatts of power; and has promoted China's total power generation capacity to exceed 700 million kilowatts.

From 2002 to 2007, China's new power generation capacity increased by about 350 million kilowatts, equivalent to the total sum generated from 1949 to 2002; and created a miracle in world power generation history. As capacity grew, China's power structure was also optimized. The State's power industry restructuring, energy-savings and emissions reduction targets are gradually becoming a reality.
