By July 31, Beijing had received 9,489 entry forms from the Olympic committees of 204 countries and regions around the world; and 11,028 athletes have qualified. The Chinese delegation remains the largest so far, according to the press conference today, August 1, by the Sports Department of the BOCOG, the organizing committee.
Officials explained that every delegation goes throuh entry registration where the exact number of athletes coming to Beijing has been confirmed. So far, 11,526 athletes have finished registering and 11,028 of them are confirmed to be qualified. As a result, the number of entry forms that BOCOG gets and the final number at the Olympic Village will slightly differ.
The Chinese delegation includes 1,099 members, 639 of them are athletes - the largest in history since China participated in the Olympic Games.
