Rescuers have failed to reach nine trapped miners four days after a massive cave-in at a colliery in northwest China's Shaanxi Province, an official with the local government said in Shenmu, Shaanxi Province, on Monday.
Fan Linhu, the Shenmu government office vice director, the county where the Zhaojialiang colliery is located, said rescuers had broke through to the suspected cave-in area but didn't find any signs of the trapped miners.
They have since adjusted their direction and continued to dig.
The cave-in occurred at 3:30 p.m. on Thursday in the Zhaojialiang Coal Mine in Shenmu when 38 workers were underground.
A total of 29 miners escaped safely.
Rescuers had earlier determined the location of the trapped miners, about 2,600 meters from the pit entrance.
More than 100 professional rescuers had participated in the rescue efforts. The mine's ventilation, power and communication systems had resumed operation. Source: Xinhua
