A ship carrying iron ore capsized in the Beibu Gulf, south of the Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, early on Tuesday, leaving one dead, two others missing.

Rescuers saved 13 of the crew members, one of whom was dead, and another who was injured. The search continued for the two missing people.

The ship, which belonged to a Nanjing-based shipping company, sank around 4 a.m. about 40 km southwest of Weizhou Island in the Beibu Gulf, said Pan Yinkuan, an official of the Nanhai Rescue Bureau, under the Ministry of Communications.

The families of the crew called the rescue bureau after the accident. The bureau dispatched a ship and two helicopters to assist in the rescue operation.

"All the crew members fell into the water after the ship completely sank," Pan said. "At that time, it was raining heavily and force-8 winds whipped up the sea."
