Gao Hongbiao, a bus driver who was responsible for a traffic accident that killed 11 people and injured 51 others early this year, was jailed for five years this week, according to a local court ruling in east China's Anhui Province.

The Mingguang City People's Court heard how Gao had driven an overloaded bus at excessive speed on an icy road on Jan. 20, and lost control while attempting to avoid a head-on collision with a car on a section of the 104 national highway.

The bus plunged six meters after veering off the road, destroying the vehicle. Gao, who had 72 people aboard, 21 over the limit, was uninjured.

He held full responsibility for the accident, according to city traffic police.
