Recently, a survey made by the Chinese University of Hong Kong found that the overall quality of life of people in Hong Kong in 2007 has continued to improve for five years. The index rose from 108.9 in 2006 to 109.19 in 2007. Thirteen out of 21 specific indicators increased over the previous year, demonstrating that overall quality of life continues to improve, according to Xinhua net. Because last year the overall socio-economic environment was ideal, Hong Kong people's satisfaction towards the performance of the local government increased significantly. In addition, benefits from the improved economy and indicators on the evaluation of economic status by the public majority increased significantly over last year.
The Academy of Social Sciences at the Chinese University of Hong Kong has been carrying out the annual "Hong Kong quality of life index investigation" since 2003, respectively scoring 21 indicators on three aspects: the society and culture, economy and environment. The choice of indicators is based on the coverage, representativeness, measurability as well as the importance to the quality of life of Hong Kong people.
