Sun Zhengcai, China's Minister of Agriculture (MOA), said that in 2007, there were 0.226 billion rural workers in China and their average salary per month reached 1,060 Yuan, which is 10.6% higher than last year and the first time that figure exceeded 1,000. Sun revealed this when he reported the stable increase in the income of rural workers at The 4th Session of the 11th NPC Standing Committee on August 28.
According to the MOA survey, 0.126 billion rural workers migrated and 0.15 billion worked in local enterprises in 2007. After subtracting the repeat number, there were 0.226 billion rural workers in total 2007. In the first half of 2008, the average salary of rural workers rose to 1,240 Yuan, 16.4% higher than the same period last year.
