Reconstruction of the Qiang Ethnic Minority Group Museum, approved by National Development and Reform Commission, is expected to open in the fourth quarter of 2011. This project received an investment of nearly 120 million yuan.
Mao County is China's largest habitat for the Qiang ethnic minority group and core area of Qiang culture. Mao County Qiang Ethnic Minority Group Museum has a collection of more than 7,000 pieces of cultural relics. The reconstructed museum covers about 13,000 square meters, and will be built as a state-level museum and Qiang Culture Research Center.
The display will use large models, sand tables, and reconstructed scenes as a supporting platform. The museum will build an outdoor pavilion to encourage interaction with the audience. Reconstruction of the museum will be environmentally-friendly, conserve energy, and improve seismic performance. A steel structure system with 8-degree seismic fortification intensity will be utilized.
