The 9th Western China International Economy and Trade Fair (WCIETF ) which was originally scheduled on May 25th-30th, was postponed to October 27th-31st and will be held in Chengdu Century City Exhibition Center in Sichuan province, Huang Xiaoxiang, Vice Governor of Sichuan Province said in a news conference on September 23, 2008.
Huang said that the 9th WCIETF will adhere to the theme of "Open West and Promising Future", taking "cooperation within the West, between the East and West as well as domestic and international" as its principle to highlighten "departmental and provincial cooperation" as well as the "co-organizing, sharing and will-for-all" concept of the West.
One of the outcomes of the WCIETF this year is the birth of Western China Information Network of Investment and Cooperation. Up to now, the 12 provinces (districts or cities) in western China and Xinjiang Production and Construction Corp have introduced a total of 2,953 projects of investment attraction with overall investment amounting to 1.7 trillion yuan and projects involving multiple fields such as high technology, competitive resources, modern agriculture, service trade, cultural tourism and infrastructures, of which 591 are categorized as post-disaster reconstruction projects with a total investment value of RMB250.1 billion.
According to initial statistics, in the previous eight sessions, there were 15, 000 exhibitors in total, with an exhibition area of 320, 000 square meters. 300 high level forums or other forms of trade and economic activities were held, attracting companies from more than 100 countries and regions. Contracts were signed over more than 3,000 investment projects, with the aggregate volume exceeding 150 billion yuan. The value of trade contracts also hit 130 billion yuan.
The previous fairs have played positive roles in pushing the development of western China, expanding opening up in this region, enhancing cross-region cooperation and industrial transfer, and promoting sound and rapid economic and social development in western China.
