200 Chinese and foreign riders toured Hangzhou by bike at the First Hangzhou West Lake Bike Riding Tour that kicked off on October 12. This also signifies the offical opening of the "slow traffic system" at the West Lake.

Hangzhou Tourism Committee chief Li Hong said, Hangzhou is the city that is most suitable for bike tourism. "Cycling around the West Lake not only promotse environment protection among tourists, but allows tourists to appreciate the West Lake from more angles which is in harmony with West Lake space."

According to the Hangzhou Tourism Committee, Hangzhou is a mature tourist destination, and it is becoming more and more internationalized. In recent years, combined with the city's West Lake protection project publicity, Hangzhou has been committed to the promotion of the West Lake cruise, electrical bicycle tour, bike tour and walking tour around the lake. At present, Hangzhou has put bike into the public transport system, and now the city has a total of 101 public bicycle service stations and 4900 free bikes are in use. The establishment of the "slow traffic system" will greatly facilitate tourists and the public. At the same time, the "slow traffic system" is extended to the West Lake, and this has reduced urban and scenic areas pollution, making this tourist city cleaner and more environmentally friendly.
