At 9 am on October 29, the last unit of the Three Gorges Right Bank Power Station was formally put into operation and began generating electricity after a 72-hour trial period. By then, all 26 generating units of the Three Gorges project have been put into full operation, signifying that the project will be completed one year in advance, according to Xinhua net.

According to sources, relative government departments will organize the certification of the generating units' operation in the near future. At present, the Three Gorges project has entered the "closeout phase" of data treatment, final calculations and acceptance inspection of the project.

Cao Guangjing, deputy general manager of the China Three Gorges Project Corporation said that the Three Gorges project, which began construction in 1993 after more than half a century of repeated discussion and verification, would be completed by the end of this year, one year ahead of the original schedule.

By October 29, the Three Gorges Power Plant had generated over 270 billion kilowatts, producing huge economic and ecological benefits.
