The death toll from Wednesday's gas explosion at a colliery in northwest China's Shaanxi Province roseto 24 after another body was found early Sunday morning, local authority said.
The body was found at around 3:40 a.m. in a shaft at the Yaotou mine, Chengcheng County, where the accident happened. Rescues are still searching for the last five trapped underground, a county government official said.
"It was more than 80 hours after the accident. The concentration of the poisonous gas is high and their chance of survival is slim," he said.
The tragedy occurred around 8 p.m. in the state-owned mine on Wednesday. Only seven of the 36 workers in the pit managed to escape.
The mine, with a complete set of licenses, has a designed annual output of 330,000 tons. Source: Xinhua
