The Ministry of Finance (MOF) and the Ministry of Civil Affairs (MCA) of People's Republic of China urgently allocated 10 million yuan for disaster relief in areas such as Tibet, Qinghai and Yunnan, which have recently suffered from severe snowstorms.
The Ministry of Civil Affairs arranged and allocated 1,000 cotton tents, 10,000 cotton jackets and 10,000 comforters to Tibet, and 1,000 cotton tents to both Yunnan and Qinghai.
Since October 26, Tibet has been witnessing an extraordinarily heavy snowstorm. The storm has caused damage to 19 counties, including Shannan, Changdu, Naqu, and Linzhi, and claimed seven lives and one missing.
About 290,000 herders in 10 counties of Qinghai province, including Yushu, Guoluo, and Huangnan prefectures, were hit by the snowstorm at different levels of intensity.
In Deqin county of Yunnan province's Diqing prefecture, 18,000 people were hit by the storm and one person went missing.
