Although a rigorous environment has brought grave challenges to China's economic development, 30 years of reform and opening up has laid a solid material foundation for the country's economic development. Even with a huge domestic demand, the tasks of furthering the adjustment and upgrading the economic structure and building a well-off society in an all-round way can be arduous, an official from National Development and Reform Commission (NDRC) said in a recent interview.
Firstly, the overall situation of the economic and social development of China is satisfactory and the policy of "maintaining growth while curbing inflation" has shown positive effects.
Secondly, with the obvious decline in export growth, the driving force of domestic demand, especially consumer demand, on economic growth has been strengthened.
Thirdly, all types of reform continue to deepen. Government information disclosure and the administration accountability system have been further improved; continued progress in the collective forest ownership reform and in the restructuring of state-owned enterprises have been accomplished.
Fourthly, the current priority is to implement the series of policies and measures promulgated by the CPC Central Committee and the State Council to promote stable economic growth, strengthen the agriculture industry and benefit the peasants, support the development of small and medium-sized enterprises and guarantee people's livelihoods.
The official emphasized that with proper regulatory and macroeconomic control and well implementation, China can reduce the negative impact of the external economy to a minimum, and continue to maintain a steady and relatively fast economic growth.
