Guangzhou welcomed the two-year countdown to the 2010 Asian Games on November 12.
At 8pm that night, the Guangzhou Asian Games Organizing Committee (GAGO) held a ceremony unveiling the countdown board and presented a fireworks show to officially mark the two-year countdown to the Games.
The large-scale promotional tour named 'Road of Asia', jointly organized by the Olympic Council of Asia and GAGO, kicked off at the same time as the ceremony. A delegation composed of sponsors, media, professionals and volunteers will travel along the ancient Land Silk Road and the Ocean Silk Road from this month until November 2009. They will visit 45 countries and regions that are competing in the 2010 Asian Games in order to promote and publicize the Games.
According to Xu Ruisheng, Vice Secretary-General of GAGO and Vice Mayor of Guangzhou, the host city's construction projects are progressing smoothly. Three major building complexes, the Athletes' Village, Technical Officials' Village and the Media Village, have begun underground engineering and construction. Preparations have been made for the construction of the beach volleyball grounds and the Main Press Center (MPC). All projects are guaranteed to be completed and operational by the end of June 2010 as scheduled.
