An explosion at a quarry has left one worker dead, another missing and six people injured in east China's Anhui Province, local authorities said Wednesday.

The blast occurred at about 8:30 p.m. on Tuesday in a work shed at the quarry in the Datong District of Huainan City, local police said.

One of the eight workers were in the shed at the time died, another was missing and four were injured, police said.

The explosion also injured a young girl and a man in a nearby two-story building where quarry workers and their relatives live.

A spokesman for Huainan Municipal Public Security Bureau described two of the injured as serious on Wednesday.

Police were questioning the owner of the quarry, official named Manhan Building Materials Co. Ltd., and continuing investigations into the cause of the blast.
