Six people, including a child, died when a truck overloaded with earth rolled on to a car in south China's Guangdong Province on Saturday, according to the local government.

The truck, carrying an excessive amount of earth to a construction site, overturned at a T-junction in Yantian District, in eastern Shenzhen City, at about 9:45 a.m., said a statement from the municipal government press office.

The truck crushed a sports utility vehicle carrying four women, a man and a child. All of them died at the scene.

An initial investigation showed the truck was overloaded and the driver was detained by police for questioning, said the statement.

It gave no other details on the victims or the amount of earth in the truck.
