The Beijing Health Security Association delivered data on the health of nationwide employees engaged in media from a period of monitoring during the last five years on November 24. The data shows that 97.5% of the subjects suffer from sub-health.
Since 2004, the Ciming Health Checkup Group of China had begun conducting research through physical examination of the particular group of individuals engaged in the media service.
In 2004, the group conducted physical examinations of 1,182 media professionals working in Beijing, and the results showed that only 28 individuals, or 2.37% of the group, had no abnormal findings. However, abnormal blood lipids, blurred vision and pharyngitis were found prevalent among examinees.
Han Xiaohong, director of the Beijing Health Security Association, pointed out that media professionals begin to suffer from poor health 10 years earlier than the common population. Overworking, insufficient sleep, less physical exercise, unbalanced diets and too much physical and mental stress are cited as reasons.
Apart from that, fierce competition in the media industry has forced them to become accustomed to sitting in front of computers for long periods of time, going days and nights relying on box lunches and snacks for food, leading directly to the increase in cases of poor health.
