Since October of this year, Chongqing has once again raised the living subsidy standard for teachers working at public schools in rural areas.

The subsidy for working teachers increased from the 300 yuan per person per month allotted in 2007, to 500 yuan. While retired teachers, who previously received 100 yuan per person per month in 2007, will now receive 200 yuan.

Reporters learnt that Chongqing currently has over 300,000 teachers working for public schools in rural areas. With these new subsidy standards, the municipal financial authority will disperse over 1 billion yuan each year.

Starting in 2006, Chongqing had offered a living subsidy of 150 yuan per person per month to teachers working in rural areas. In 2007, the city raised the subsidy standard to 300 yuan, while retired teachers began to receive a subsidy of 100 yuan per person per month.
