Wu Xiaoqing, vice minister of the Ministry of Environmental Protection told reporters on November 28 that the Ministry has placed strict checks on high-energy-consuming, high-emissions, and resource-dependent construction projects. It will shut down these projects to strengthen balanced economic development.

The Ministry of Environmental Protection strictly examines high-energy-consuming and high-emissions projects to facilitate industrial structure adjustments and eliminate backward production facilities. The ministry has recently postponed approval for six chemical engineering and thermal power projects with a total investment of 39.4 billion yuan.
