The Shanghai Municipal Public Security Bureau deployed a police helicopter to observe and provide air security support along the route of the 2008 "Toray Cup" Shanghai Winter Marathon Race recently.

This is the first time that Shanghai's police helicopters have been applied to actual service.

The Shanghai Municipal Public Security Bureau signed a contract with Eurocopter Group and purchased two EC135 light twin-engine helicopters and one EC155 medium-sized twin-engine helicopter last April.

They are currently the world's most advanced helicopter models and are equipped with high-powered search lights, infrared night-vision devices, imaging systems, medical stretchers as well as other policing and life-saving equipment.

These helicopters can be used to carry out police air missions such as urban air patrols, command and pursuit of escaped criminals as well as government air missions such as fire rescue in high-rise buildings and first-aid.
