At 5pm on December 2, the Beijing Meteorological Observatory issued the blue early warning signal of a cold wave. Guo Hu, head of the Beijing Meteorological Observatory said that this was Beijing's first early warning of a cold wave since the system to release meteorological early warning signals was in place. The major effects of this cold wave will be strong winds and falling temperatures, but there is not much chance of citywide snow.
Guo pointed out that the strong cold wave which was due to arrive around noon on December 3 would be the strongest since the start of this winter and it would not only bring howling northern winds, but the temperature would also drop drastically. People should take preparatory measures for the strong winds and low temperatures. Due to little air moisture, there might be light snow or occasional light snow in the northern mountainous areas, but there is not much chance of snow in the urban areas or in the plains region. Patience will be needed before we see the first citywide snow.
