To commemorate the Universal Declaration of Human Rights' 60th anniversary and the 30th anniversary of China's reform and opening-up, the China Society for Human Rights Studies held a seminar called "30 Years of China's Reform and Opening-up and Human Rights Development" in Beijing on December 2.
Wang Chen, director of the State Council Information Office, said in his speech that overseas publicity of China's human rights situation started from zero 30 years ago and it has been continuously developed ever since. The State Council Information Offices accomplishments in this field have made important contributions to helping China explain explicitly to the world, China's human rights situation. It has also helped clarify China's position in this regard, showing our favorable image in respecting and protecting human rights, and to create the objective and friendly public opinion environment for the economic reform, opening-up and modernization policies.
Luo Haocai, president of the China Society for Human Rights Studies, said that since reform and opening-up, China's human rights situation has been progressing in tandem with development and modernization: people's living standards have been greatly increasing; economic, social and cultural rights have been rapidly improving; civil and political rights have been widening; legitimate rights and interests of ethnic minorities have been effectively protected; and the construction of human rights theory, international exchange and cooperation on human rights have been continuously developing.
