China's biggest non-profit private art museum, the Huamao Art Museum, opened to the public free of charge on December 4 in Ningbo, Zhejiang Province.

The Huamao Art Museum was funded by Mr. Xu Wanmao, chairman of the Huamao Group based in Ningbo, who personally contributed over 50 million yuan. The floor space of the museum covers more than 7,000 square meters and features Xu Wanmao's personal collection of almost 1,000 valuable calligraphy and painting works by famous Chinese artists dating back to the Yuan Dynasty as well as Russian-style oil paintings.

The Huamao Group is a private enterprise that focuses on the production of teaching instruments and equipment for elementary and middle schools in China, and is currently the largest provider in the industry for these products. In recent years, the Group has made an accumulative donation of 130 million yuan in money and goods to Chinese education, and moreover has founded four schools.
