The China green food industry has been maintaining good development, learned reporters from the China Green Food 2008 Shanghai Expo currently being held in Shanghai.
So far, China has a total of 6,160 green food enterprises, a total of 176,500 kinds of products, and their annual product sales are over 200 billion yuan. The annual export sales are over US $2 billion and accounts for 7% of the total export sales of national agricultural products.
China’s green food industry has established a basic certification management system. At present, the Ministry of Agriculture has issued 102 relevant standards concerning green food and local agricultural administrations have issued 235 standards.
Meanwhile, a comprehensive standardized production mode has been implemented for green food. So far, China has established 219 large-scale standardized production bases for green food materials. The bases cover an area of 56.35 million mu (about 37.57 billion square meters), have a total production volume of 29 million tons, and have benefited over 6.4 million rural households. In addition, nearly 1,000 elite national and provincial industrialized agricultural enterprises have received green food authentication.
