China's Minshan Nature Reserve Cluster is in preparation to organize and establish an alliance to strengthen the protection of giant pandas and their habitats in the Minshan Mountain area, according to the preparatory meeting for the alliance on December 16.
In the Minshan Mountain area, the number of wild giant pandas living accounts for 44.4% of the nation's total, and the habitat of the giant pandas covers around 570,000 hectares, or 41.7% of the total habitat area for giant pandas in the entire country.
There is also an area of nearly 300,000 hectares which can be developed for giant pandas. By the end of 2008, the Chinese government at all levels has already established nearly 30 nature reserves in this area mainly devoted to protecting giant pandas.
The alliance is named as China Minshan Pandas Nature Reserve Alliance or Minshan Reserve Alliance for short.
