A report on a survey of the working situation of the "Post-'80 generation" was released by the China Youth and Children Research Center, the China Youth and Children Association and the Beijing New Talent Academy on December 25.
It surveyed 500 employers as well as 2,590 people born after 1980 in ten districts and counties in Beijing. It showed that the "Post-'80 generation" is gradually entering the main strength of workforce, and has displayed their distinct characteristics in the workplace. Problems like lacking the will to endure hardship and work hard, changing jobs frequently and thinking his business below him are the "common problems" found in this particular generation.
——Nearly 40% of the "Post-'80 generation" have changed jobs
The survey shows that "Post-'80 generation" consists of over 50% of the staff in over half of the companies. Department managers of nearly 70% of employers think that frequent job hopping is common among those born after 1980. Nearly 40% of these "Post-'80 generation" investigated have changed their jobs, and 10.4% of them having changed their jobs at least four times. More than 80% of the surveyed subjects do not regard job hopping as criteria for judging their loyalty to employers.
——The "Post-'80 generation" lack the will to endure hardship and work hard
The survey shows that the "emotional quotient" (EQ) of the "Post-'80 generation" is their main drawback at work. More than half of the "Post-'80 generation" surveyed subjects think what they lack most are things such as the "will to endure hardship," "good psychological quality," "dedication to work," "devotion" and "obedience." This self-assessment is consistent with the conclusions of employers. However, instead of "good psychological quality," employers think "sense of discipline" is much more needed among the "Post-'80 generation."
——Thinking his business below him is common among "Post-'80 generation"
More than 70% of employers think that the "Post-'80 generation" tend to think his business below him. There are several causes for this phenomenon: these individuals do not have a clear understanding of themselves and their social roles; practical ability education is not taught enough in school; school education is not in line with social needs; and members of the "Post-'80 generation" are greatly spoiled by their families.
