According to the Jin Wan Bao, the construction of a project involving the research, development and manufacturing of spacecraft, one from a third batch of 20 key industrial projects in Tianjin, started recently.
The project will see the construction of an industrialized production base that produces unmanned aircraft with independent intellectual property rights and environmental protection equipment, and a base that is engaged in spacecraft production and its application industries.
It shows that the defense technology of Tianjin has already reached an internationally-advanced level.
According to an official with the China Tianjin Economic Commission, the unmanned aircraft sub-project with a total investment of 1 billion yuan is located at the Tianjin Hi-tech Industry Park and covers 100 mu.
The construction of a special aircraft production base and an aerodynamic flue gas desulfurization production base is expected to be completed by the end of 2009. The special aircraft, including unmanned planes, utilize an all-digital flight control system and an advanced telemetering and command ground system.
While the aircraft fly at high speed and high altitudes of thousands of meters, the ground station can conduct real-time remote control. By combining military and civil functions, the aircraft can be applied in various fields including reconnaissance, communication, meteorology, agriculture, geological exploration, prevention of geological disasters, traffic surveillance, urban planning and fire control.
The aircraft are not only small, highly automated and effective, but also easily operated. They can reach places inaccessible to humans to perform tasks.
