Seven people have been killed and 14 others injured when a bus crashed off the road in north China's Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region, local officials said Wednesday.

The accident happened at 5:40 p.m. Tuesday when a bus with 42 people aboard overturned and plunged off a three-meter-high roadbed on a highway in Hulun Buir City, officials of the city government said.

An initial investigation suggested the bus skidded and lost control as the road was covered by snow and ice, said a police spokesman.

The injured were being treated in hospital, but none of the injuries were believed to be serious.

The investigation in the cause of the accident is continuing.
