Five people were killed and 14 others injured in a road accident in northwest China's Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region on Wednesday, according to local government.

The accident occurred at 1:05 p.m. when a bus crashed off the road after being involved in a collision with a truck, said a spokesman with the county government.

Three people died at the scene and 16 injured were taken to hospital, but two of them died shortly after.

It is not known how many people were on the bus when the collision occurred.

Police are investigating the cause of the accident.
