Nine people were killed and eight were injured after a minibus crashed with a farm truck in northwest China's Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region on Tuesday evening, local authorities said.

The accident happened at 6:15 p.m. in Gongliu County when a busside slipped on icy road and collided head-on with a farm truck on the regional S316 Highway, a county government official said.

Four people died at the scene and five died in hospital. Eight people were injured, of whom five seriously.

The cause of the accident is under investigation.
