The special campaign to crack down on Internet indecency continues to gain momentum. After 55 websites that violated laws and regulations were closed during the Spring Festival holidays, another 68 websites that spread pornographic and offensive contents were shut down on February 2.
As of February 2, 1,575 illegal websites spreading pornographic and offensive contents and 148 lewd and pornographic blogs have been shut down as part of the special campaign to crack down on Internet indecency.
According to officials in charge of the nationwide special campaign, the websites that have been shut down in law enforcement have a centralized geographical distribution. Over 50 percent were located in provinces such as Jiangsu, Fujian, Zhejiang and Guangdong. Telecommunications enterprises, including China Telecom's branches in Xiamen, Fujian, Yangzhou, Jiangsu and Huzhou, Zhejiang, provided access services for some of the illegal websites.
